Project summary:

The DEWEMAT project focuses on further development of the West-Bohemian Centre of Materials and Metallurgy (WBCMM) during its five-year sustainability period. The main objective of the project is to provide conditions for the sustained development of the research infrastructure of the West-Bohemian Centre of Materials and Metallurgy and for the stabilization of its research team, thus promoting welfare development and economic prosperity in the Pilsen Region, the home region of the Centre, as well as the competitiveness of research in the Czech Republic.

CZK 430 million, a grant from the Operational Programme Research and Development for Innovations of CZK 350 million, 85 % EU funding from the European Regional Development Fund, and 15 % from the state budget of the Czech Republic

Objectives:

  • Establishing a prestigious regional centre of research into promising metallic materials, their production processes and utilization in industry
  • Opening new materials-metallurgical laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment
  • Building a professionally qualified and experienced research team for applied research
  • Offering research and development services to research institutions and industry – up to the verification stage and prototype trials
  • Contributing to acceleration of the transfer of scientific and research knowledge to companies through the implementation of two research programmes comprising six application-oriented research projects
  • Boosting the translation of applied research knowledge into instruction and education at higher education institutions through engagement of the centre in the training of students in master's and doctoral study programmes

Description:

Metallurgical laboratory with an area of 2270 sq m and the following equipment:

  • Four-high rolling mill with accessory equipment (heating furnaces and inductors, cooling tunnel and a bath for rapid cooling)
  • Universal forming machine for developing new open-die and closed-die forging processes
  • Vacuum-melting furnace with a capacity of 450 kg

Laboratory building with a total area of 688 sq m comprising:

  • Materials research laboratories
  • Computer simulation laboratories
  • Engineering design office
