International project MOWSES

COMTES FHT is involved in the international research project MOWSES(Multi-Faceted Assessment and Optimization of Welded Structural Green Steel Plates for Use in European Sustainable Infrastructure) v rámci programu Horizon Europe. COMTES FHT a.s. is involved in the international research project MOWSES (Multi-Faceted Assessment and Optimization of Welded Structural Green Steel Plates for Use in European Sustainable Infrastructure) within the Horizon Europe programme. The project focuses on the determination of conditions for the safe use of structural green steels without the need to use critical strategic elements. This research focuses on the use of steels ranging from medium strength (S355) to ultra-high strength (S960) in European infrastructure. A key aspect is to ensure the reliability of welded joints, in particular the heat affected zone (HAZ).

One of the key objectives of the project is the development of new environmentally friendly steel alloys made with a higher proportion of recycled material. This poses a challenge in welding and mechanical properties, especially in welds where the increased presence of residual elements (e.g. Cu, Ni, Cr) can affect the strength and toughness of the material. The project uses advanced tools, such as machine learning and numerical simulations, to accurately control the microstructure and predict the behaviour of the material during processing.

This four-year project, on which COMTES FHT is collaborating with leading European research institutions, has the potential to make a significant contribution to sustainable steel production and CO2 reduction by extending the reusability and lifetime of infrastructure components.
